I’m Master Hair Stylist Faith Johnson, Founder and Owner of FJ Beauty Studios and Academy, located in the Salem area in the beautiful city of Virginia Beach. I’ve had the distinct pleasure of servicing amazing clients for many years with pro styling services and various highly sought-after beauty techniques including cutting, coloring, extension installations of all lengths and so much more. Trained and certified in multiple cosmetology competencies, I enjoy using the skills and knowledge I’ve acquired to create exactly what clients envision when they sit in my chair. My clients depart with the confidence to live their dreams and beautifully express themselves.
I strongly believe being licensed to provide services is essential because having the necessary credentials helps establish trust with clients. My personal goal is to have you feeling top tier for any type of event whether career orientated or glam for special occasions. I’m also very passionate about community service and using my gift to give back to up-and-coming beauty professionals. I stand firmly on the principle that what you do with your gifts can push you toward your purpose. I understand the importance of instilling traditional values and ethics that shape our communities while giving individuals a place to be serviced.
My Foundation
My passion for beauty developed early in life. Growing up my mom did ok with our hair, but I always desired more. Although she did her best, those styles didn't allow me to express myself in the ways I wanted to, so I began to tame my own hair... tresses that I happen to be very self-conscious about. I always felt as though my peer's hair looked better or felt they were looking at my crown strangely because “my fan wasn’t quite fanning”. In those adolescent years, appearance was everything and subconsciously had a major effect on self-confidence. With no other beauty solution available, I literally took matters into my own hands and began experimenting on my twin sister. Every bang I cut was crooked, every color I used made our hair fall out. I was 9 years old in the 4th grade however I knew if we looked good, we felt good which subsequently caused us to perform better in school and in our social circles. I even bleached my own hair blonde with peroxide during this time. I was bold, determined, and focused. Quickly my natural skillset began to grow and evolve. I went from styling my sister's hair to all our friends and family members as well. I’ve worked with all types of hair from relaxed to natural. This was a rewarding feeling for me because I had everyone looking and feeling good! I became fascinated about how my work could completely change a person’s appearance and how they felt about themselves. I enjoy the process of finding client’s own unique style.
Years later I branched out and decided to acquire a salon chair in a professional setting so I could provide my growing list of clients an even better experience. During this time, I relocated often from salon to salon trying to find my niche. One day, I simply grew tired of not having a comfortable workplace to call “home” so dedicated myself to opening my own beauty hub. My sole desire was to provide a place that provided everything women desired. Styling hair for me is not just about the outward appearance, beauty is internal first! Every single day from simple conversations while serving clients, I witness the beauty inside women. That motivates me to continue do what I love and enjoy. Outside of the salon, I devote my time to my huge family and my multiple hobbies, like dancing, joking and innumerable outdoor activities.
I take everything I’ve learned and I intentionally help other young women on their beauty career journeys by showing them how to align their gifts and skills with purpose. My beauty studio and academy show students how to constantly work on improving skills, learn new techniques, experiment, and keep up to date with current trends beyond the state board. Life isn’t perfect but beauty can be!
